The Myers' Cocktail, named after Dr. John Myers, is a nutritional supplement given intravenously to patients. It consists of magnesium, calcium, selenium, multiple B-vitamins, and vitamin C. The "cocktail" has been used to treat many conditions including generalized fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, upper respiratory infections, chronic sinus infections, seasonal allergies, migraine headaches, muscle spasms, and menstrual cramps, as well as supportive recovery from endurance athletic sports. Relatively healthy patients benefit from the energy boost and the invigorating effects of the nutrients for a period of time.
The difference between consuming a handful of the above vitamins and minerals versus the 20-25 minute IV infusion is that IV administration can achieve blood concentrations not obtainable by oral supplementation due to the gastrointestinal tract. IV therapy can be more effective in correcting nutrient imbalances. In certain disease or conditions, the capacity of these nutrients to get inside the cells is diminished. IV administration allows these nutrients to reach the cells and enter without resistance. With the IV Myers' Cocktail, cells are repeatedly flooded with these nutrients, and the improvement can be cumulative in their ability to heal, and improve many conditions and illnesses.
Dr. Ariel Mastrich, ND, is administering these therapies at 2BWell's Lake Oswego clinic. She will be offering two different formulas, the Myers' Wellness Cocktail and the Myers' Immune Stimulating Cocktail to aid in the recovery of acute illness.
